Jackson McDonald is delighted to announce that Krista McMeeken is a WA finalist in two categories of the 2015 Telstra Business Women’s Awards. The categories are Corporate and Private Award and the Young Business Women’s Award.

As a member of Jackson McDonald’s nationally recognised Construction team, Krista provides front end legal advice and dispute resolution to principals, contractors and consultants across a variety of sectors.
Krista is committed to addressing the legal and systemic issues that prevent Aboriginal Australians from participating fully in society, particularly in the education and workplace spaces.

She has made significant public contributions, including:

  • Holding the role of convenor of the Law Society of WA's Indigenous Legal Issues Committee.
  • Representing WA on the Law Council of Australia's Indigenous Legal Issues Committee and sitting on various NAIDOC committees.
  • Teaching constitutional recognition of Indigenous peoples at the Constitutional Centre of WA for two years with the aim of facilitating community discussion.
  • Participating in the 2015 US Department of State’s International Visitors Leadership Program on Indigenous Youth Leadership.

Krista believes that diversity is a strength when it comes to business.

“As a young Aboriginal woman from the country, I have learnt that diversity is not a weakness. Instead, it provides a unique perspective to many issues impacting business practice,” Krista said.

Jackson McDonald CEO, Malcolm Shelton-Agar congratulated Krista on this achievement.

“We are delighted for Krista on this fantastic achievement," he said.

"Her tireless efforts on behalf of her community are to be commended.  We wish her every success with the Awards."

The Telstra Business Women’s Awards have been running for over two decades with an aim celebrate exceptional business women. WA’s winner will be announced at the State Dinner Friday October 9.
